Choral music was introduced in Korea more than 130 years ago, and today, Korea has one of the most vibrant choral cultures in the World. There are more than 60 government sponsored professional choirs, thousands of community choirs, and one of the biggest church choirs are in Korea.
Hymns brought to Korea by Christian missionaries were the first introduction of Western choral music, and the hymns also served an important component in regard to educating Koreans.
The first instance of choral education was taught in church choirs. Today, Korea is one of the leaders of choral music in the world, and Korea have
accomplished and contributed a lot in many ways to the choral world in a relatively short period of time, especially when compared to the rich history of Western choral music.
There are more than 60 government-sponsored professional choirs, and countless numbers of amateur choirs and church choirs in Korea.
